Smulders Projects award Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm contract to Granada

Granada Material Handling are undertaking another major contract for the £2.6bn Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd (BOWL) project, this contract awarded by Smulders Projects.

Granada are commissioned to design, supply, third party certify, deliver and commission 28 davit crane units. Each of the Granada Python cranes has been designed specifically for Beatrice and one crane will be fitted to each of the 28 platforms being supplied by Smulders Projects.

Smulders Projects was awarded the contract for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of 28 jacket foundations for the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm by Seaway Heavy Lifting. With more than 10 years Offshore Wind Industry experience, Smulders Projects offers a wide selection of a high level expertise in design and engineering. Over the past 10 years, Smulders successfully fabricated more than 1,300 foundations and have more than 200 foundations in order book. Some recent projects are Gemini, Dudgeon, Kentish Flats, Luchterduinen and Amrumbank. For the Beatrice project, each of the Granada Python crane units measures approximately 4 metres in height, 7.5 metres in radius, and weighs 2000 kgs. The maximum lifting capacity of 1250 kgs is needed to hoist the heavier serviceable components from the supply vessel to the laydown area on the platforms of the foundation platform. With an emphasis on the operator’s needs and on health and safety, the design of the Python cranes is unique to Granada.

Mark Sidwell, director of Granada Material Handling said,

“The award of another contract for the BOWL project is a significant achievement for Granada’s Renewable product and service division, reflecting the breadth of our expertise in this industry. Having supplied over 600 offshore davits to-date, we continue to work with designers, wind farm developers and turbine manufacturers to further enhance our product range to the benefit of all parties operating in the sector. As a major UK supplier of cranes and lifting equipment, Granada is one of Europe’s leading offshore wind farm davit crane suppliers. We are now looking to place orders and sub-contract specialist areas of work to other UK businesses, so this contract is great news not only for Granada but also for our UK-based supply chain.”
