Granada help meet UK content targets for offshore wind farms

PMS MIB Vertical logo stacked - Bottom – North West copyThe UK is the global leader in offshore wind farm development and Granada Material Handling are leading the way in the sector, working with both wind farm developers and UK supply chain manufacturers, to the benefit of the UK economy.

The level of UK content in wind farm projects has been an issue throughout the development of the sector and, responding to this question, the Offshore Wind Industry Council approved the introduction of a UK Content Reporting Framework. Since January 2015, owners of all UK offshore wind farms achieving final investment decision report their UK content to RenewableUK – measuring progress towards the commitment to achieve 50% UK content in offshore wind farms.

As a major supplier of cranes and lifting equipment to the offshore wind industry, Granada help clients meet this UK content target. Supplying over 600 offshore marine davit cranes to the renewables sector to-date, all Granada’s cranes are built in the UK. Granada specialist solutions range from supply boats to the wind turbine platform and on-turbine handling.

Recent projects involving Granada’s UK-built specialist products and expertise include:

  • Hywind – where Granada were awarded the contract to design, manufacture, third party certify, deliver and commission 10 davit cranes;
  • Galloper – with Granada designing, manufacturing, delivering and commissioning 56 davit crane units;
  • Gwynt y Mor – where Granada now have a 3-year contract to maintain and re-certify their 160 crane units;
  • Dudgeon – with Granada being awarded contracts by both Dutch manufacturers Smulders Projects and by Sembmarine SLP for a total of 69 crane units.

Alongside Granada’s own engineering, design and servicing expertise, the company champions UK supply chain involvement in the offshore wind farm sector, placing contracts and sub-contracting specialist areas of work to other UK businesses.
